17 Oct Camping With Electricity vs. Without: Which Site Is Right for Your Family?
Planning a family camping trip to Wacky Adventures? Camping with electricity gives you the option to use small electrical items at your campsite. But is a site with electricity the right choice for your family, or would you be just as happy camping without it? Here’s what you need to know before booking your West Coast getaway.
Camping With Electricity
When Wacky Adventures Campsite first opened on 25 October 2024, all of our campsites were non-powered. In July 2026, we added electricity to 8 campsites, giving campers the choice of a powered site for the first time as we keep improving the park year by year.
Sites A1 to A8 have electricity. All other standard campsites (A9–A12, B1–B11 and C1–C5) remain non-powered, so if a powered site is important to you, it’s worth booking ahead since there are only 8 available.
Our powered campsites are equipped with a 10 Amp circuit breaker, suitable for light electrical use only. Think phone chargers, a small fridge/freezer, or charging your camping lights, rather than power-hungry appliances. High-power appliances such as electric heaters, aircons, kettles, microwaves and air fryers may trip the circuit breaker and should be avoided.
A powered site is a good fit if:
• You’d like to run small electrical items, like phone chargers, fairy lights or a small fridge/freezer
• You’re not planning to use high-wattage appliances
• You don’t have your own solar or inverter setup and would like access to electricity instead
Camping Without Electricity
Our non-powered campsites (A9–A12, B1–B11 and C1–C5) make up the majority of our campsites, 20 in total, so you’ll have plenty of choice.
A non-powered site is a good fit if:
• You enjoy the simplicity of unplugged and back-to-basics camping
• You already have your own power setup and don’t need electricity
• You’d like a wider choice of available sites, since these make up most of our campsites
What’s the Same on Both Campsites
Whichever option you choose, your camping fee includes access to the Water Park, so you can enjoy the swimming pools, unlimited water slides and trampolines throughout your stay.
Both site types also give you access to our camping facilities, including family bathrooms with hot water showers, toilet and basin, private swimming pools for campsite guests, and braai facilities. We supply braai drums, but not braai grids, so remember to bring your own.
The same general rules apply across both site types:
• Maximum of 6 people per site
• No pets
• No generators
• No music or musical instruments
• Silence is required between 22:00 and 06:00, except on 31 December when silence time shifts to 01:00
• Minimum stay of 2 nights, 3 nights over December/January school holidays and long weekends, and 4 nights over Easter weekend
How the Pricing Compares
Campsites with electricity are priced a little higher than non-electricity sites, reflecting the added convenience of electricity. For full up-to-date rates across the year, take a look at our full pricing breakdown, which covers all our camping options side by side.
Not Sure Which to Choose?
If electricity would genuinely add to your comfort, and you’re happy to keep your usage light, a powered site is worth booking, especially since only 8 are available. If you’re comfortable camping unplugged, or simply can’t secure a powered site for your dates, a non-powered site gives you the exact same access to the Water Park and camping facilities, just without the outlet.
Either way, you’ll get the same lekker West Coast, Western Cape camping experience, complete with braais, swimming and everything else Wacky Adventures has to offer.
